COCONUT OIL

Coconut and specifically coconut oil has been a major topic of research in recent years because of its many extraordinary health benefits. In fact, in low resource situations where severe dehydration has caused the need for intravenous fluids, coconut water has been used to replace electrolytes in the body.

coconut skin benefits
If you’re thinking of using coconut oil as a beauty treatment, you’re on the right track. Coconut’s medium chain fatty acids have antimicrobial and antiviral properties that can clear up acne and skin fungi such as ringworm. Beyond that, you can reap the following benefits from applying coconut oil to your face:

Help heal mild sunburn (please seek medical help for severe burning)
Soothe and heal rashes
Reduce the appearance of scars by healing damaged tissue and promoting the growth of new tissue
Reduce wrinkles and fine lines
Penetrates skin layers and keeps free radicals from forming
Hydrates skin from the outside
Is non-occlusive; will not clog pores
Acts as an exfoliator to remove dead skin cells and allow new cells to come to the surface
Can be used during or after shaving as a natural lubricant

For sheer cosmetic purposes:
Apply a tiny dab of coconut oil over your makeup along the top of the cheekbone and out to the hairline. It works like a highlighter. Your skin will appear to glow and the nutrients in coconut oil will be benefitting your skin at the same time.
Coconut oil makes a light eye makeup remover for stubborn and even waterproof makeup. Simply use a cotton ball to swipe makeup off.
As a cleanser, this antibacterial hydrator does double duty. Use it on dry skin and gently move around the face in small circles to remove face makeup and grime. Rinse with warm water and repeat for heavy makeup. Pat dry and coconut’s EFAs act as a moisturizer.
For dry skin, use a tiny dab of coconut oil mixed into your foundation and apply as usual.
As a lip balm, coconut oil will soften lips and protect them from environmental assault, including dry winds, heat and sun. The same goes for the rest of your face, but don’t rely on it if you plan to stay out in the sun for long periods of time. It only acts as an SPF 3, not really enough to protect long hours or sun worshipping.

Recipe: Coconut Coffee Skin Wash
You can use this especially invigorating facial wash for any skin type. It’s also excellent
for acne and as a shampoo when diluted 50/50 with water. Coconut’s antibacterial properties clean skin while coffee bean oil invigorates.

Ingredients:

1-16 ounce bottle organic liquid castile soap, such as Dr. Bronner’s
5 drops coffee bean oil
1 teaspoon raw organic coconut oil
Add oils to the castile soap and shake vigorously.

To Use:

Shake the mixture well and apply about 1/2-1 teaspoon to the face, throat and décolleté with a soft cloth or your fingertips. Rinse with warm or cool water. Castile soap is concentrated, so a little goes a long way.
